When in doubt, light a scented candle. Or two.
Another revolution ‘round the sun later, and we’re now somehow already into 2025. How did that happen? No, I’m serious, how the heck did that actually happen? Where does the time go? I wish I knew. That being said, as the previous year wraps up and the new year rolls out in glitzy fashion, now’s the time to reflect on all that’s happened over the past three-hundred-sixty-five days.
And what’s the best way to do that? By throwing the best of all possible NYE parties, of course! Have you been avoiding cleaning up your space? Have you used every single excuse you know in the book to just kick your feet up and binge something on Netflix? Guilty. Well now there’s no more excuse. Busting out the ol’ reliable vacuum is what must be done. There’s nothing more satisfying than hearing that crackle (you know exactly what kinda crackle I’m talking about) that gets sucked up into the vacuum bag.
When in doubt, light a scented candle. Or two. Or twelve. Never a bad idea. While you’re at it, might as well light a joint. Just because you’re cleaning everything up, that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun while you’re doing it, right?
It's also not a half bad idea to do a load of laundry as well. The only thing better than the delightful smell of clothes being utterly drenched in detergent-- is the sound of that very same set of clothes tumbling around in the dryer. Listening to clothes bounce around in the laundry room is my one true happy place.
And just like that, the guests start arriving. Of all the parties that you might have in an entire calendar year, the one on the eve of the new year is perhaps the most powerfully poignant of all. Not only is it great to see everyone all gathered together in one single space, but now is truly the time to just really reflect on all that’s happened in the past year.
Make sure you have lots of snacks and munchies readily available. Reflecting is never fun on an empty stomach. Pro-tip: You can’t ever go wrong with a nice shrimp ring and a side-serving of Tostitos with a Hint of Lime. No other flavour compares. Trust me. Don’t forget the salsa. Lots and lots of salsa.
The more people that show up to the party, the more widely available options you have for games to enjoy. If you really want to test the boundaries of your friendship with people, set up a round-robin tournament for Mario Kart. Especially on 150cc in Mirror Mode. Or if you’re feeling particularly masochistic and/or sadistic, jack the speed up to 200cc. If you don’t have Mario Kart readily available, you can always whip out Monopoly for similar results.
Whatever it is you end up doing, it’s important to have fun with the people you love. Spending time with your friends and family as the year winds down is what matters most. Stick to your guns as you get to the final count down from 10, to 1 and ultimately Happy New Year!
Take care, have fun, and stay safe out there! Let’s make 2025 our year!
